“Not only will shoppers find a variety of items at reasonable prices, they’ll also feel good knowing their purchase is helping their neighbors…” — Dan Wolf, Development Director

Tuesday, August 17, is National Thrift Shop Day, a time to raise awareness of these bargain-filled stores and their benefits to their communities. Peoria Rescue Ministries invites the public to take part in this special “holiday” by shopping at the PRM Thrift Store at 1114 SW Jefferson in Peoria when we open on Wednesday, August 18th.

Open Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the store offers new and gently used items of all kinds, including clothing, furniture, household goods, books and a host of rescued treasures and rare finds. All revenue is used to support the ministry’s life-changing programs and services for homeless and struggling men, women and families right here in the Peoria area.

The store also provides a training ground where residents of PRM’s long-term Downtown Renewal Experience can learn vital workplace skills as they perform retail functions.

“Not only will shoppers find a variety of items at reasonable prices, they’ll also feel good knowing their purchase is helping their neighbors who turn to our ministry for food, shelter, practical resources and faith-based guidance,” said Jon Rocke, executive director at Peoria Rescue Ministries.

Just as important, the community can also support the store and PRM by donating goods to stock the shelves. A list of items accepted and most needed can be found on our website at this link.

“Whether you’re a frequent shopper or a new customer, please come check out the bargains in our thrift store on August 17,” said Dan Wolf. “And if you have items you no longer use, consider bringing them along to donate.” He also invites shoppers to use #ThriftShopDay to share their experience on social media and encourage others to get involved.
