General "Core" Volunteer Opportunities

 

Individual Opportunities

All individual volunteers must be over the age of 18.

Clothing Supervisor
The Peoria Rescue Mission provides clothing to men who are in need. Help is needed daily to sort and organize clothing donations by size so we can easily supply the correct-sized items to our clients.

Minimum Age: 21 (male only)
Level of Training: orientation and initial onsite training
Location: Rescue Mission

 

Beautician
A goal of our recovery program is to teach these women life skills that will help them succeed in life outside of the Esther House program.  You can help support and show love to these women by pampering them according to your expertise.

Bleach Toys
Children are a valuable part of Peoria Rescue Ministries.  Our Women’s Pregnancy Center serves both children         and their parents, while our women’s recovery program houses and cares for mothers and their children.  The children’s toys need to be cleaned with bleach often to help stop the spread of germs and sickness.

Meal Prep/Serve (Men's Facility)
The Peoria Rescue Mission serves three meals a day, every day of the year to the men who are staying with us.  Help is needed to prepare the meal, serve, and clean up.  Open to individuals, couples and families. 

Minimum Age: 6; Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult; no more than two children per adult

Meal Prep (Women's Facility)
A goal for our women’s recovery program is to assist the women in developing basic life skills which will help them succeed in life outside of the program.  You can help teach the women the basic skills of cooking and meal preparation.  Meals are prepared and served three times a day for the women enrolled in the recovery program, with opportunities to help at breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Facilities Cleaning
At Esther House, you can help keep the home clean and welcoming by performing much-needed acts of service such as cleaning carpets, the daycare floors, or the commons area. At the Barnabas Center, you can serve by maintaining clean facilities and providing our clients, staff, and neighbors with a welcoming and friendly place to be.

Data Entry
The individual in this position will help us keep up-to-date records by performing data entry for our various areas of ministry. Accurate records are essential to keep our programs running smoothly and enable us to better serve our clients.

Dental or Medical Services
For the men residing at the Peoria Rescue Mission, general hygienic services can sometimes seem like a luxury.  Regular dental and bodily care is vital in helping these men remain physically healthy.  You can help meet the needs of these men by providing them with dental care and cleaning or various medical services.

Minimum Age: 35

Transportation for Clients
Many of our residents have appointments throughout the week and are in need of transportation to and from these appointments. This position is much more than simply transporting - time in the car together can often be a place for positive friendships and conversations to occur. This is truly a ministry opportunity!

Event Committees

Several fundraising events are held throughout the year to support and raise funds for Peoria Rescue Ministries.  We need your help!   Many opportunities are available for various events including our annual golf outing, banquet, block party, and Walk event.

Legal Aide

Many of our clients deal with difficult financial or legal situations that they aren’t sure how to rightly handle.  You can help these individuals by providing legal service, advice, and support when needed.

Minimum Age: 35
Level of Training: orientation and licensed lawyer or legal professional
Location: Rescue Mission, Esther House, Victory Acres

 

Library Manager
This individual will provide assistance in managing the Esther House library by keeping materials organized and helping residents find what they are interested in.

Minimum Age: 18 (female only)
Level of Training: orientation
Location: Esther House

 

Online Content Seller
This position will assist the Thrift Store with the online sale of larger items as well as conversing with potential buyers in order to complete sales. The person who best fits this role will have experience personally or professionally in online e-commerce sites such as eBay, Varagesale, or Facebook Marketplace.

Tax Prep
We desire to see all the women enrolled in our long-term recovery program succeed and live healthy, happy lives outside of the Esther House program.  You can help support these women by helping them file their taxes as they work hard to make a better life for themselves and become responsible members of our community.

Crafts
Spending time with our residents by holding a craft night is a great way to show you care!  Encouraging participation and teaching the residents a craft will help to encourage and support the women in our long-term recovery program.

Truck Driver
Truck drivers are needed daily to help pick up donations and deliver furniture to our customers.  Our drivers need to be friendly and helpful. They must also be able to assist in loading and unloading box trucks and must feel comfortable driving and operating a box truck.

Provide Meals & Snacks
The Women’s Pregnancy Center offers classes to men and women who are soon-to-be parents or new parents.  Through these classes, they learn what to expect through childbirth and how to be godly, caring parents to their children.  Help is needed to provide snacks or meals (subs, chips, etc.) for the participants of these classes.

Snow & Ice Removal
While this position is only on an as-needed basis, an individual is needed who is dependable and can be available on the spur of the moment during the winter months to clear our facilities after a large amount of snow or ice.

Sanitize Beds/Pillows/Tubs
The beds, pillows, and clothing tubs used at the Peoria Rescue Mission have to be sanitized often to help prevent disease and to remain clean.  Your help is needed!  Come help keep these items clean for our guests.

Landscaping
This position will provide cleaning and upkeep of the landscaping to keep it looking beautiful for our staff, clients, and customers.

Donation Sorting (Thrift Store & Men's Facility)
Our Thrift Store serves one of the poorest areas of Peoria.  With donations coming in every day, help is needed to keep the Thrift Store running smoothly!  Various opportunities are available including sorting donations, stocking shelves, and testing appliances.

Donations of clothing are gifted to the Peoria Rescue Mission on a regular basis.  Help is needed to go through, sort, and organize clothing items.
