Esther House

Esther House is a residential facility to help women, and women with children, in the Peoria area. Esther House is another addition to our growing family of ministries and is located at 6847 North Allen Road. The facility, formerly called the Smiley Living Center, is a 16,000 square foot building located on a beautiful 3.5 acre lot situated between Redeemer Lutheran Church and Woodland Baptist Church.

Esther House addresses the needs of women whose shattered lives cannot be turned around by a short stay in a friendly shelter. Some women may desire to reclaim a life that has been ravaged by poor choices and shameful pain. Some women are trying to raise a child on minimum wage, if they can even find a minimum wage job. Many women have been rejected by their families, and have no other place to turn for love and support.

It is estimated that 95% of single women with children have no religious training. Esther House will demonstrate the love of Christ by working with its residents on an individual basis as long as is reasonably required.

Esther House will exist for two purposes:

1.  To present the love and life of Jesus Christ as the only way to spiritual and emotional wholeness.
2.  To assist residents in acquiring the educational and vocational skills necessary to become functioning members of society. 

Each resident develops an individual plan which will prepare them to become a committed follower of Jesus Christ and a functioning member of our communities.  The plan includes Bible study and discipleship, as well as biblical counseling. She is required to acquire educational and vocational skills, which will prepare her to be gainfully employed and self-sufficient. She will be required to contribute to the domestic responsibilities within the residence so that when she is on her own, she will be able to maintain a home proficiently. She will be required to attend a local church (fellowship of believers).

Financially, the need is considerable!  The challenge is great but we have a tremendous opportunity to fill a crucial need in the tri-county area.
